TAILORx Breast Cancer Trial Qualifications
For patients 18 to 75 who have recently had breast cancer surgery and need either hormone therapy or chemotherapy followed by hormone therapy to prevent their cancer from returning.
The patient’s lymph nodes must be negative for cancer. The cancer must be estrogen and/or progesterone positive and Her2/neu (a type of gene) negative.
TAILORx Trial Goals/Protocol
The molecular test called “Oncotype DX” is performed on the breast cancer to determine a recurrence score (RS). This is a calculation of the probability the cancer will return.
Patients are then randomized to one of 3 arms:
- RS < 11: patient receives hormone therapy (HT)
- RS 11-25: half will receive HT, other half chemo then HT
- RS > 25: patient received chemo then HT
