BETH Trial for HER-2/neu Positive Breast Cancer Qualifications
For patients 18 & older who have been diagnosed with unilateral, Her2/neu+ breast cancer that has spread to the lymph nodes.
If the lymph nodes are negative for cancer, then the patient must be “high risk”: age <35 or tumor was a grade 2 or 3, or tumor was >2 cm or tumor was estrogen and progesterone receptor negative.
BETH Trial Goals
One purpose of this study is to see if adding the new drug Avastin to the commonly used combination of chemotherapy drugs (including Herceptin) improves invasive disease-free survival of patients.
Another purpose of this study is to evaluate the effects of these chemotherapy treatments on the heart
Patients will receive the Avastin or the Herceptin + Avastin for 1 yr
