ECOG 2805 Trial for Kidney Cancer Qualifications

For patients 18 & older who have been diagnosed with renal cell (kidney) cancer which has not spread to other parts of their body and who are eligible for removal of their kidney (nephrectomy).

ECOG 2805 Trial Goals

One purpose of this study is to see if giving chemotherapy drugs (currently on the market for kidney cancer that has spread to other parts of the body) to the patient right after their nephrectomy will prevent their cancer from coming back.

The other purpose of this study is to see which chemo drug is the most effective with the least number of side effects when compared to a placebo.

The patients are given Sunitinib + Placebo, Sorafenib + Placebo, or 2 different Placebo pills.  They will take study medication for a year and have to monitor their blood pressure regularly.
